I have written a hundred essays for my blog since December 2020. These essays include thoughts about creativity, inspiration, music, songwriting, life, nature, genealogy, language, architecture, and social commentary. They represent a part of my creativity. Expressing ideas through whatever means I have available is important to me. Being creative keeps me sane.
Creativity is the ability to make something from nothing—using one’s imagination. The results of creativity may be tangible such as music, painting, writing, woodworking, etc. Or, creativity can also be in finding new solutions to problems or new methods to accomplish a goal—for example scientific research or software designing.
An essay is not an op-ed that tells its reader what to think. An essay is a complicated working-out of one’s own contradictions and complicities.

A Milestone
This is a moment for me to celebrate. I am astonished that I could write a hundred essays. (I have 125 blog posts so far.) These essays prompt me to slow down and look closer at the world and at my life. Writing helps me live with intention and purpose. Here is a quote from my first essay: “Grain of Sand”

Being in the moment, experiencing the small slices of life—that is the goal of my creative journey. Whether I am writing music or essays—I hope to encourage others to live to their fullest and to create every day. And, perhaps I have stayed in the margins when necessary, but have also boldly colored outside the lines when the muse calls for that!
A lazy man works twice as hard. My mother told that to me, and now I say it to my kids. If you’re writing an essay, keep it in the lines and in the margins so you don’t have to do it over.
