Hello! If you love music, words, stories and the connection between creativity and life, you will feel right at home here. Through my journey, I want to inspire you to make time for yourself—to take time to create and to enjoy the world around you.

I am a composer, singer-songwriter, church musician, and writer. In this blog I share my compositions, songs, stories, and essays—as well as tidbits and trivia about all kinds of music. I describe my journey of deciding to become a songwriter and taking songwriting classes in Nashville. I share snippets from my everyday life, or, whatever strikes my fancy on any day. In taking you along on my journey I want to inspire you to follow your creative path—whether it is through music, writing, art—or whatever makes you feel alive!

My love for music began when I was about five years old. I would sit on the floor with a stack of 45s and a small record player. I loved playing those records over and over. Sometimes my father would pull out his collection of Glenn Miller and Benny Goodman albums from the 1940s so that my sister and I could dance around the room. When I was seven, I began taking piano lessons. I can’t say that I was a good student, but I suppose I had some talent which made up for my lack of desire to practice. In college I earned a degree in organ performance and a master’s degree in music composition.

I have spent periods in my life—even years—not being creative, stuck either mentally or physically in a place that was not life-giving. When you are in those situations, it is difficult to find a way out—or, believing there is a way out—or, believing that you are capable or worthy of anything better than where you are at that time. I wish I could say that there was a huge lightbulb moment or one experience that changed everything. In truth, there were numerous lightbulb moments and multiple experiences. Some were external and some were internal. And, it is a continual journey.

I will share things I have discovered and continue to discover as we travel on this path. That is the fun part . . . connecting with you! I believe we are all creative. I want to inspire you to dream bigger and to make time for that creative part of yourself. There is no better time to start than now and it is never too late!
